Simon Main

Bath and Main Associates

Overview

We established Bath and Main Associates with an ambition to develop the organisations we work with to be the best they can be, to influence public policy positively and to support people to enjoy a better life. We enable organisations to set and fulfil their aims as effectively and efficiently as possible. We listen, appraise, challenge, provide ideas, facilitate innovation, give feedback and work closely with the organisation to increase its impact.

Our principles are simple and our ambitions high. We are open and honest, bold and transparent; we deliver on time and to budget; we engage with the stakeholders who input into and influence the process; we aim for a consistency of approach and excellent communication throughout the commission; we aim to be inclusive in our approach, giving people the opportunity to participate and have their views heard in the ways they feel most comfortable with; we believe that the process is as important and the product.

Evidence of our successful track record is reflected in the fact that 85% of the organisations that commission us, re-commission us.

Experience

Background - Bath and Main Associates is a 2-person business set up in 2011. We also both have 25+ years experience of working in and with the VCSE and the public sector. We are both active volunteers in our communities. Between us, we have worked at community level, city and county wide, regionally, nationally and internationally, including secondments to UK government programmes and global charities.

Specialisms - Our four main specialisms are:
1. Change management
2. Improving governance
3. Adding capacity i.e. interim management, project management
4. Project and service evaluation

Other - With a history of working for and with older people’s organisations, we have a particular expertise and passion for enabling older people to have a better say in the decisions that affect their lives, in challenging ageism, in improving older people’s services and also in enabling organisations to think through the implications of and their response to our ageing society. We have developed a unique pre retirement planning workshop called Flying Ostriches which provides a whole life perspective of preparing for later life.
