KEDA Consulting is a strategic consultancy for charities, managed by leading consultant, Alex Blake. We have worked with over 100 charities, helping them to develop impactful strategies, improve performance and secure funding.

What do we mean by consulting?
The creation of value (e.g. increased impact, effectiveness, income) for clients, through the application of knowledge, techniques and assets by:
• Identifying and investigating issues concerned with strategy, policy, funding, organisation, business models and processes.
• Formulating recommendations for appropriate action by factual investigation and analysis, with due regard for broader management and organisational implications.
• Discussing and agreeing with the client the most appropriate course of action.
• Providing assistance, where required by the client, to implement these recommendations.

Examples of consultancy projects include:
• Organisational strategy
• Fundraising strategy
• Partnership development including workshops and write up of agreed structures
• Feasibility studies
• Function analysis and process mapping
• Advice and support on specific opportunities/challenges
• Reviews (aka audit or diagnostic) of organisational structure, teams, fundraising performance etc.
• Research reports e.g. market scoping, sector mapping, benchmarking etc

Qualifications

Alex is a full member of the Institute of Consulting, Chartered Management Institute and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising; undertakes regular continuing professional development in themes relating to strategy, problem solving, decision-making, facilitation and consulting; and holds the PRINCE2 Practitioner Certification, Certificate in Fundraising Management and a BA (Hons) in Business Management.


Experience

Alex Blake is a strategic consultant working exclusively with charities (and other non-profits) to have a greater social impact.

Alex began his career in the charity sector with roles at St Christopher’s Hospice, ORBIS International, WaterAid and the National Autistic Society before establishing KEDA Consulting in 2013, where he has:
• Delivered strategic consulting to help charities develop strategy, solve problems and grow;
• Supported over 100 charity clients
• Secured over £24 million in grant funding
• Delivered training and events to build capacity in the sector, particularly in response to Covid-19 impacts
• Produced a research report on grant-seeking and grant-making practice with input from 200+ charities
• Grew a team of six consultants before returning to independent consulting model.

Alex brings his sector experience, a robust understanding of management consulting theory and practice and a passion for social change to each and every consulting project.

Alex has given his time to a range of voluntary roles on committees and trustee boards, such as at LD:North East, Future Builders Uganda, Chartered Institute of Fundraising and the Leaders of Social Change Network at Newcastle University.
